Eyewitnesses describe the panic and chaos as a deadly fire broke out at a Swiss ski resort bar during New Year’s celebrations. Officials called it an “unprecedented tragedy,” saying around 40 people were killed and about 115 others severely injured in the blaze.
As a deadly fire tore through the Le Constellation bar in the Swiss ski town of Crans-Montana, young people trapped inside tried desperately to escape.

Witnesses reported seeing people smashing windows to try to escape, and others emerging with their clothes or hair having been burned off. Most of those killed or wounded are thought to be young people.
